The year is 2007. The venue is Karachi’s prestigious art university ‘Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture’. Thesis season is in the air. One Thesis is a Graphic Novel about an ancient amulet which grants its wearer the power of an ancient warrior called Shamsheer. 

Since our childhoods we all have been fascinated by heroes and heroines whether they are in the pages of a comic book or manga or flying towards us in 3D on the big and small screen. For kids born in the 80’s their ideal was usually a spandex wearing or leather clad Western or European individual who always saved the day, took out the bad guys trying to take over the world and upheld the moral values of Peace and Justice. And it worked.

Fast forward to 2007. Shamsheer was originally created as a thesis project but the character represents something much more now than what it was originally created for. It represents a mostly unrepresented voice and a potential vehicle for telling stories about the heroes from this side of the world and showcasing their values. The character and his world has evolved over the years even as his core message has become stronger and more relevant especially in 2025.
