Shamsheer: A Graphic Novel
Since our childhoods, we have all been fascinated by heroes and heroines, whether they leap off the pages of a comic book or soar towards us in 3D on both the big and small screens. For kids born in the 80s, their ideal hero was often a spandex-wearing or leather-clad individual from the West or Europe, who always saved the day, defeated the bad guys aiming to take over the world, and upheld the moral values of Peace and Justice. And it worked!
Fast forward to 2007, when the Shamsheer Graphic Novel was originally created as a thesis project. However, the character stood for something much more significant. It represented a largely unrepresented voice and served as a potential vehicle for telling stories about the heroes from Pakistan and the South East Asian side of the world, showcasing their unique values. Over the years, the character and his world have evolved, even as his core message has become stronger and more relevant, especially in 2025.
